Annual Summer Volleyball Tournament

This year, we played sand only but still had a great time under the hot sun. Mens participants included: Cy, Slade, Gregg, Dave, Myke, Chris, Martin, Stephan, Bryan, Scott, and Curtis. For the women, we had Lissa, Kim, KC, Carissa, Ashley, and Curtis' 2 daughters. This year we tried a handicapping system where each player received 1 point for each 10 years over 30 and 1 point for each 2 inches under 74", 2 points for gender (female). This helped keep games close and made for some interesting play. Cy once again took home top honors in Mens with Slade a close 2nd, and Lissa prevailed in the womens division. At the post-tourney potluck, Lissa crushed Cy in ping-pong to emphasize her dominance.

Gig Harbor Well Represented at Seaside 2011

It was the 30th anniversary of the Seaside Beach Volleyball tournament, largest sand volleyball tournament in the nation if not the world. Several Gig Harbor regulars played again this year, including Lissa (Womens B 3rd), Slade & Wes (Mens A), Cy (Mens A 5th), Gregg & Dave (Mens 45+ 1st), Chris & Jonn (Mens BB 5th), Ben (Mens AA), Kim (Womens BB 7th), and Martin (Mens BB).

This year had an international flavor as we met and BBQ'd with new friends Paolo and Lucia from Milano, Italy. On their trip to visit the west coast of USA with friends, they chose to follow Paolo's volleyball passion and play Seaside. The following Monday, they stopped by for 5 more games in Gig Harbor courts and a visit to the Tides Tavern on the way to Seattle.
